Week 7 Endurance Phase

This week started out with me feeling still a bit weak and not yet re-energized from the 12K race the day before. I decided therefore to just do a bit of weights and core work and a recovery swim. On Tuesday I had somewhat recovered and resumed my program with a Tempo Run. On Wednesday, I was fully recovered and had a great bike ride in addition to my swim which was still improving. The weather this week was definitely improving and ended up only doing one indoor session on my spin bike.

The weekend was capped off by a great ride around Yellow Point with my friend Julie under a bit cloudy skies with cool weather but dry roads with little traffic except for the 6K section on the highway from my place. The evening was capped off with friends Ivan and Tam coming over to watch Ironman Hawaii and hot discussion about training in general. Sunday I woke up refreshed and I had my best long run to date with warm sunny weather where my pace was quick and tireless. I had to control myself from going further. As usual with all my runs, I ended up with a steep climb from the A&W on the Highway up to the top heights of Ladysmith hills are getting to be a norm for me around these parts but the strength training on my legs have definitely helped me with this part of my running. My heart rate declined quickly and was completely recovered a couple of hours later for work.

My new treadmill was also delivered this past Friday and what a quiet dream machine this is. Although I am not a big fan of a stationary biking or running, these tools are a great asset to me for my training on lousy weather days and specialized and controlled interval training where I can precisely measure my output and guage my fitness over similar courses I have designed specifically for these purposes, specially using the Heart Rate functions for which I am a true believer in. All in all a great week and looking forward to this next coming week.
